Brenntag Wins Award for Plant-Based Sustainability Innovation at Saudi Food Manufacturing Tradeshow

Brenntag, the global leader in chemicals and ingredients distribution, has been honored with the "Sustainability Innovation of the Year Award" at the Saudi Food Manufacturing tradeshow. This recognition highlights Brenntag's revolutionary, plant-based soft cheese ingredient solution, which combines low CO₂ emissions with sustainable practices to redefine the future of food.

This award-winning product is a testament to Brenntag Nutrition's dedication to sustainability. Their plant-based soft cheese solution uses innovative ingredients like sustainable potato-based thickeners sourced from Avebe, delivering a creamy, protein-rich alternative with a significantly reduced carbon footprint of just 2.15 kg CO₂e/kg—far lower than the 12.51 kg CO₂e/kg of traditional dairy cheese, according to CarbonCloud studies.

Brenntag's sustainability efforts go beyond product innovation. Their CO2Xplorer tool, certified by TÜV Rheinland, meticulously calculates the carbon footprints of their products. This tool, which itself won the "Best Digital Innovation" award at the ICIS Innovation Awards 2024, demonstrates Brenntag's comprehensive approach to eco-friendly practices—from sourcing to production.

Jerzy Jasiński, Global President of Brenntag Specialties Nutrition, expressed his pride: “This award for our plant-based soft cheese honors the work of the Brenntag Nutrition experts developing high-end ingredient solutions and supporting our sustainability promise. Together with our partners, we are shaping a world where taste and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.”

Brenntag's success at the Saudi Food Manufacturing tradeshow underscores their leadership in integrating plant-based innovation with environmental consciousness, setting a new benchmark for sustainability in the food industry.
