Vegan and Animal Rights Advocate James Cromwell Urges Egypt to End Cruelty to Camels and Horses at Pyramids

Renowned actor, vegan, and animal rights advocate James Cromwell has written an urgent letter to Egypt's tourism and antiquities minister, Sherif Fathy, urging him to stop the widespread mistreatment of camels and horses forced to carry tourists at the pyramids in extreme heat.

These animals on the Giza plateau lead miserable lives. PETA investigations have shown that handlers brutally whip tired horses and camels, who have limited access to food, rest, shade, or veterinary care.

"Egyptian authorities have chosen to ignore the severe and obvious cruelty inflicted on horses and camels. "Egypt is a magical place with much to see and experience, but no one wants animal cruelty to be part of their travel plans," said James Cromwell.

In his letter, Cromwell points out that the Egyptian government had promised to make significant changes after a 2019 PETA investigation first exposed the horrific abuse of horses and camels at the country's top tourist sites. However, PETA's latest mini-documentary reveals that no action has been taken to end the cruelty.

Tourists who pay for horse or camel rides support these cruel practices. If you're traveling, please avoid animal rides.

Want to help the horses and camels at the Giza pyramid complex? Join Cromwell and PETA in urging Egyptian officials to stop this cruelty and implement a ban on using horses and camels for tourist entertainment.
