Is a plant-based diet the newest Trend in Bahrain?
According to Moayyed Feroze, co-founder and coach of The Healthy Conscience, "Bahrain is one of the best places in the region for vegans." A Plant-based diet is gaining traction in Bahrain, as global demand for plant-based products increases. The growing number of vegan restaurants and options in Bahrain attests to this trend. Feroze told The Daily Tribune that there is a surge in people switching to the vegan diet in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and there is a plant-based alternative for "almost every type of food you can think of, so you don't have to miss out on your favorite foods."
Animal agriculture, according to Feroz is a major cause of environmental damage.
"In recent years, the industry's intensification has resulted in a slew of issues, including extreme abuse of farmed animals, antibiotic resistance, and zoonotic viruses." Feroze also points out that the environmental damage caused by animal agriculture far outweighs any benefits, particularly "for those who live in developed countries with access to a diverse range of foods." However, there are risks, Feroze said. "If we give up animal proteins, we should pay special attention to certain vitamins and nutrients." Niacin, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 are among the B vitamins. Supplements and fortified foods can easily provide all of the nutrients. Ensure that you have regular blood tests during the first year of transition."
Many believe it can be intimidating to start a vegan lifestyle or diet; however, there are small changes you can make on a daily basis to ensure an easy transition. Small amounts of meat or dairy removed one day per week can help with the transition. "Changing one meal at a time, having vegan breakfasts, or changing one product at a time, such as swapping cow's milk for almond or soya milk, can all be small changes."
