“Switch Foods” Launches its First UAE Facility in Abu Dhabi to Offer Homegrown Plant-Based Meat
After the recent opening of a meat substitute factory in Dubai Industrial City by THRYVE, another local plant-based meat brand, Switch Foods, has launched its first UAE facility in the capital to cater to the increasing demand for sustainable and ethical food options.
As vegan meat gains popularity globally, it has faced challenges dominating the mainstream food industry due to concerns about its taste and texture. Some describe it as having an earthy flavor and giving a dry mouthfeel. To overcome these challenges, Switch Foods initially worked with North American chefs during the development stage. However, they gradually hired regional chefs to capture native characters and improve their products' taste and texture.
Switch Foods' 20,000 sq ft factory in Abu Dhabi will produce 100% GMO-free, allergen-free, gluten-free, soy-free, and vegan kebabs, kofta, sujuk, minced meat, and burger patties using pea protein to create a juicy bite. The brand spent 12 to 16 months perfecting its product line to make it as delectable as possible for the UAE palate. Additionally, restaurants have shown interest in working with Switch Foods to create recipes using meat substitutes.
THRYVE, on the other hand, uses fava beans to create meat-free meats with local flavor in their Dubai factory.
Switch Foods and THRYVE contribute to the country's sustainability credentials. They will roll out their upscale products across the UAE, available in supermarkets and restaurants.
In conclusion, with the increasing demand for sustainable and ethical food options, plant-based meat is gaining popularity worldwide, including in the UAE. With the launch of Switch Foods' first UAE facility, consumers can now enjoy high-quality homegrown plant-based meat that meets their dietary preferences and health needs.
