Veganuary: The demand for vegan meals on Emirates has skyrocketed!

Upon every New Year, a lot of people consider their New Year's resolutions and how they can live a healthier lifestyle, and for 2023 nothing is different. In 2013, British businessman Matthew Glove and his wife Jane Land founded "Veganuary," a non-profit organization that encourages people to go vegan during January and beyond.

Veganuary's goal is to encourage people to switch to a plant-based diet, which will not only improve their health but also help the environment and prevent the unnecessary animal slaughter.

The number of people seeking vegan meals in Emirates during Veganuary has increased dramatically!

Emirates, based in Dubai, has seen a surge in demand during Veganuary for plant-based meals and now offers a variety of vegan meals that can be ordered ahead of time. Aside from Air India, only a few airlines offered a vegan meal option a few years ago. Emirates served over 113,000 vegan onboard meals in 2021, demonstrating that vegan meals are becoming more popular among flyers.

Emirates provides more than 170 vegan meal options.

Emirates announced in October that it would offer vegan meal options in all travel classes. The fourth-largest airline in the world has developed a special plant-based menu with over 170 options.

Emirates' updated vegan menu was created by chefs at the Emirates Flight Catering facility in Dubai, and it is more extensive than ever. The meals, which are based on regional dishes from the countries where Emirates flies, include plant-based options in starters, main courses, and desserts. Emirates' vegan economy class option changes every month. Every month, the economy class menu is updated with items such as:

  • Vegetable crêpes grilled with spinach and tomato concassé

  • Vegetable ravioli from the Mediterranean

  • Vegetable Tagine Moroccan with Couscous

  • Barley Risotto with mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes

  • Caramel-baked rice with coconut cream, and Pineapple with pomelo and ginger syrup are two vegan desserts from Emirates.

Emirates also offers a vegan option for breakfast, with dishes like coconut oat and chia pudding served with mango and passion fruit compote. Vegan meals can be requested by all Emirates passengers up to 24 hours before departure. There is always a non-meat option available on all high-volume routes.

In Emirates lounges, vegan meals are also available.

Emirates' premium customers can also eat vegan meals in the Emirates business class lounge at Dubai International Airport's Terminal 3. (DXB).

Fresh salads and tasty treats such as Vietnamese-style rice paper rolls served with a mild spicy vinegar dip or vegan burgers with a rocket side salad are available to Emirates’ premium customers. Quinoa tabbouleh and vegetable and white bean soup are available for Business Class passengers. Additionally, both lounges serve a variety of nutritious vegan salads.
